Lansing, Michigan has the state’s first hybrid-electric school buses. Dean Transportation, a locally-owned school bus company, acquired the Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2e buses in 2010 to help reduce student exposure to exhaust emissions. The 4 buses use an Eaton hybrid system that combines a diesel engine with an electric motor/generator. Batteries can provide electric only drive for up to 15 miles and are partially recharged by a regenerative braking system. The result, lower tailpipe emissions and less dependence on petroleum…

Lansing, Michigan - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Nancy Danhof, Kellie Dean, Greg Tedder and Mike Flanagan to the Education Commission of the States.

The commission, created in 1965, is an interstate compact working to improve public education by facilitating the exchange of information, ideas and experiences among state policymakers and education leaders.

While a student at Michigan State University, Kellie Dean took a summer job as a substitute teacher at the Marvin Beekman Center in Lansing, a school that focuses on students with physical and mental disabilities.

It was meant to last only a couple of months, but that job would change the former MSU football player's life. When he returned to school that fall, Dean changed his career plan from physical therapy to special education.

He had found his life's calling.

Grand Rapids, Michigan – Dean Transportation was joined by officials from Kent Intermediate School District today in welcoming the latest additions to the area’s school bus fleet – a pair of hybrid electric vehicles, including a 71-passenger bus for Grand Rapids Public Schools and a 54-passenger bus for Kent ISD.
