On Wednesday, January 25, over 50 people gathered for the launch of the Information Technology Empowerment Center’s (ITEC) TechTransport Bus. The ITEC bus is a mobile computer lab that provides students with the chance to launch into space, learn robotics, enhance their math and science skills, and much more. While on the bus, fourth to eighth grade students will participate in lessons on wave communication through 3D printing, augmented reality, the Kerbal Space Program, and the Space Launch Experience. 750 students in the Lansing Capital Region are expected to participate in TechTransport programs this year.
A few years ago, Kellie Dean, President & CEO of Dean Transportation, envisioned a mobile computer lab in a full-sized motor coach. Dean Transportation donated the motor coach that was repurposed to serve the youth of Lansing, and Kellie worked with the team at ITEC to bring his vision to life. He mentioned that the donated motor coach has transported the Beach Boys, U2, presidential candidates, and many more, but only now has it found its true mission. Dean Transportation is proud to play an integral role in creating science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education opportunities in Lansing and throughout the state.
